About This Course
In this course you will get to understand the concept of spatialisation: placing 2D and 3D objects in a virtual environment. You will also gain experience with this concept by uploading and placing images and 3D models in the 4D Browser.
You will learn about the differences in 2D and 3D spatialisation and will receive the know-how behind this practice, since it’s not just dropping objects into a 3D space.
This course is also useful if you want to create virtual tours wit different Points Of Interest (POIs).
You can choose to skip parts of the course and focus on the topics that are relevant for you. At the end of each section there will be some multiple choice questions to test your knowledge and your understanding of the topic.
NOTE: This course is still in beta and has not gone through user tests yet. Changes to the course structure and/or material can be made as long as it is in beta.
Learning goals
- Understand what virtual spatialision is and how it works
- Understand the differences between 2D and 3D spatialisation
- Being able to upload and place photos and 3D models correctly in a virtual environment
- Being able to use the 4D Browser and all its advanced features
- Create Points Of Interest (POIs) and combine them into a virtual tour
Target Audience
- Advanced users of the 4D browser
- People who are new to the concept of 2D and 3D spatialisation
- Learners who are interested in photos and 3D models being placed in a virtual landscape model
Requirements
- Time: at least 60 minutes to complete the course.
- Tools: Laptop or desktop computer, course can be done on a mobile device, but adding objects should be done on a laptop/desktop + having a mouse will be good for accuracy.
- Preferred browser: you can use any browser for this course. The 4D Browser works with most browsers, but Chrome is recommended for the best experience.
- Completed courses: it is advised that you have completed the courses Introduction to the 4D Browser and Advanced Exploration with the 4D Browser before starting this course.
Notice: regular cleanups and training files
For this course you will need a 4D Browser account to add photos, 3D models, texts and/or to create POIs. While it is recommended to register with your personal or work email address to have permanent access tour your account and uploaded files, it is possible to create a test account if you don’t want to share personal information and if you want to practice the features with the provided test files.
You can create a temporary test account and use the 4D Browser with all content upload features. The test accounts reset after a week of inactivity. All the data uploaded by a test account gets deleted with a reset. It is no problem if a reset happens while you are still taking this course. You can register a new test account and continue with the instructions. It might lead to losing some work that requires to repeat a few steps, but this should not set you back more than 5 to 10 minutes per uploaded and spatialized image or 3D model.
Training files
During the course you will be able to download training files. These consist of images and a 3D model. You can use these files to gain experience with different levels of complexity in spatisalisation and all the functions of the 4D Browser. The use of some of these files is needed to answer the questions in this course. You can already download the test files for the course here.
